The Mercer Veterinary Clinic for the Homeless is held during the second Saturday of every month year-round from 8AM to 3-4 PM. UC Davis Veterinary students and pre-veterinary students over the age of 18 are welcome to volunteer for the clinic.

Duties of pre-veterinary volunteers may include assisting with the recording of patient histories, assisting for physical examinations, preparing preventive care medications, assisting with client checkout and record keeping, preparing the materials for blood draw and communicating with our on-site lab volunteers, and clean-up duties.

Pre-veterinary students interested in volunteering should contact Mercer Veterinary Clinic undergraduate coordinators (mercer.undergrad.contact@gmail.com).

What to bring: Blue scrubs, nametag, close-toed shoes, pen, and a watch. If you have a rectal thermometer you’re willing to use for your own patients, please bring that as well. A clipboard is handy for carrying records, but not required.

When to arrive: There are two shifts, the first from 8AM -12PM and the second from 12PM - 4PM (or all day!). Please arrive 15 minutes early for your shift, as there will be a short orientation.

Where to go: 1321 North C Street, Sacramento, CA 95811 (Note: This is not the exact address, but the nearest to the clinic location.)

Directions: Merge onto I-80 E toward Sacramento (9.1mi)
Continue on I-80 Business E (3.4mi)
Take the exit onto I-5 N toward Redding (2.2mi)
Take exit 520 for Richards Blvd (0.2mi)
Turn right at Richards Blvd (1.3mi)
Follow Richards Blvd until you come to a HUGE intersection right before you see some train tracks. Be in your right lane. You will turn right onto N 12th street (before the train tracks). Get into the far left lane (you will be crossing around 5 lanes to do this) before the next intersection. At the light, you will see Ahern St. up and to your left. Turn onto Ahern St. Turn right at the gates around 100 feet up. Park close to the building in the parking lot, or if no parking is available, you will be directed down the block to parking in front of some of the brick light industrial buildings. When arriving, the first gate is currently for foot traffic and clients only; the second gate is our entry for vehicles.
